About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Old Town Temecula, Swing Inn Cafe & BBQ is a cherished culinary landmark that masterfully blends classic American diner fare with authentic Texas-style barbecue. Established in 1927 and famously co-owned by actor Dean Norris—known to "Breaking Bad" fans as Hank Schrader—this inviting spot offers more than just a meal; it delivers a flavorful slice of Southern California history wrapped in smoky, savory goodness.

The kitchen here champions a robust menu where every bite bursts with rich, hearty flavors. Start your morning with the Giant Cinnamon Roll, a sweet, buttery indulgence that's practically a meal on its own, or dive into the smoky comfort of the Biscuit & Gravy, a classic Southern staple served piping hot. For those craving something savory and protein-packed, the Sirloin Steak & Eggs pairs tender Angus top sirloin with perfectly cooked ranch eggs, while the Southwestern Omelet delights with its melty pepper jack cheese and spicy Ortega chilis.

Barbecue aficionados are in for a treat with signature items like the juicy Pulled Pork Sandwich, tangy and tender, or the indulgent Brisket Fries, a playful twist on classic comfort food smothered in BBQ sauce. Compliment your meal with one of their three distinct house BBQ sauces—sweet, house, or spicy—to tailor each bite to your liking. For a refreshing contrast, the bright and invigorating Blue Lagoon cocktail or their famed Swing Inn Bloody Mary offer a crisp, flavorful experience that perfectly balances the smoky richness of the meats.

The dining atmosphere at Swing Inn Cafe & BBQ combines cozy diner charm with a warm, communal vibe. The interior, while intimate and bathed in bright light, invites guests to relax, but many choose the outdoors where spacious seating and heaters make for a comfortable meal beneath Temecula’s open sky. Whether you're gathering a large group or grabbing a casual bite, the staff’s attentiveness and friendly service make every visit feel special.

Numerous patrons have left glowing praise reflecting the heartfelt nostalgia the cafe evokes. From hearty brunches with friends to discovering time-honored dishes like the savory liver and onions, customers consistently share not only their satisfaction with the food's quality but also their delight in the genuine ambiance. Fans of "Breaking Bad" will appreciate the subtle nods sprinkled throughout the space, adding a unique cultural twist to the experience.

In every sense, Swing Inn Cafe & BBQ stands out as a must-visit destination for food lovers craving genuine Texas barbecue alongside classic American breakfast and diner favorites. Whether you're indulging in a smoky brisket or savoring a fluffy egg white omelet topped with creamy avocado, each dish is crafted to satisfy the senses and warm the soul. Came here for brunch with a table of 10, there was a wait so maybe call ahead. Breakfast was good, steak was delicious. I would recommend if in area Fun fact: Hank from breaking bad (dean) owns the spot.

Excellent lunch at the iconic Swing Inn Cafe & BBQ, a historic institution with a surprisingly modern twist: it’s co-owned by actor Dean Norris (known to Breaking Bad fans as Hank Schrader!). We devoured the Texas-style craft BBQ and the signature home-brewed Schraderbräu Marzen beer. For fans, the entire place acts as a subtle Breaking Bad Easter egg, though we just missed Dean that day. Fantastic BBQ.

Texas BBQ is their specialty but I opted for the liver and onions that they have served since 1927! I was not disappointed. For $17, you get two thick beef liver slabs smothered with onions on top. Sides were vegetables and mashed potatoes with gravy. Heavenly! The wife had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich with fries. Also excellent! They have 3 bbq sauce containers at the table: sweet, house and spicy. I'm sure you'll find one suited to your taste. For dessert, we had the cinnamon roll. Their specials screen mentions that their cinnamon rolls are the best in town. I would have to agree! It's so moist and buttery. I loved every bite of it!

Swing Inn is one of the oldest continuously operating restaurants in Southern California. This was our first time there and we really enjoyed it. Exceptional breakfast and the staff is incredible. We actually bought the t-shirts! Old Town Temecula is extraordinary. What a great place to visit. Highly recommend!

The place is a little smaller then what I thought, but still decent. The lighting inside was extremely bright so we decided to eat outside. They had several seats and heaters outside so I was comfortable. The food was great! Tried the brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and smoked chicken. All was great. And the house sauce was also really good. Will definitely be back again to try more. By the way they have allot on the menu to choose from. Service was fast and friendly also.

Good food and great service. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The place smelled heavenly. Nothing beats that smell of good smoked barbecue. I had breakfast this time around. Everything was cooked to perfection. This is definitely going to become my go to place whenever I’m in the Temecula area. Try it out, Support, some local business, and experience the magic of old town Temecula transferring you back into the Old West days Update: came back two days later for the BBQ. Ticket home on a 2 hour drive. Reheated it once I got home and it was so good!
